Watch you as you sleep; arms
akimbo...like branches
of a cherry-tree.
Times like these, I ache to tell you
things – secrets about myself
I’m yet to confess.
Like petals of a rose – pressed
between Deuteronomy and Joshua
remnants of a lost love...
my first milk-tooth – lost
to a toffee – now brisling in
a matchbox.
How your breath falls warm
on my chest, how I count
the freckles on your cheeks;
constellations – uncharted,
no matter how far apart we get
they draw us together again.
How the beat of your heart
is the sweetest sound...even when,
like now, the stars sing.
