Jesus told them he must go –
not only so that they could know
pardon for all their sin, but so
his Spirit he to them could send
to strengthen, help them understand
his truth, his word
(no news absurd –
their opened eyes
its sense and love saw
with astonishment, surprise):
wonderful gift,
the church no longer felt bereft,
the Spirit’s power they knew,
and grew, and grew …
'It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go, the Counsellor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.' John 16:7

Neatly put and thought
Neatly put and thought provoking, Rhiannon. The rhymes worked well, too.

erm...
you should offer it up for the church magazine, it would be appreciated. I put together a hymn a year or so ago, I called it the prayer hymn, and the organist from the methodist chapel at Garvestone wrote the tune for it. I think it did go into the Methodist hymn books this time. I wrote hymns as a child under L Albright.
I used to live in this area for a while then,,. until I had to move away. I've always
loved the language and higher purpose of the church.
