Jonathan’s arrow sign (IP)

If I shoot long, you must be gone –
the danger is extreme;
if I shoot short, then there is nought
to fear for it would seem
my father’s ire has lost its fire,
he’s quit his murderous scheme.

His jealousy is bitterly
corrupting and corroding,
without God’s calm it brings such harm,
so easily exploding.
It may yet cease, cooled by God’s peace:
I’ll check out with foreboding.

For jealousy’s such tragedy,
much better acquiescing
to God’s good plan and gifts to man
and on that path progressing,
and never slide to foolish pride:
disastrous and distressing.
