I felt just the same when I
I felt just the same when I was little. Still adore the ballet. Loved your poem - especially -
'Taught myself to jeté and perform
an arabesque...fought with my mother
for the right to grow my hair long –
a must, as Juliet to Nureyev’s Romeo.' -
that was me - no one could stop me dancing, but I always lost the battle over hair-cuts.

Know that feeling, conveyed
Know that feeling, conveyed so well. Not the theatre for me, more Enid Blyton. But I think you've nailed ambition here and it's a real heartache as a child when you strive for something. My mother used to cut my hair after a bottle of wine if we're doing confessionals. Imagine.

Thwarted dreams. Maybe we all
Thwarted dreams. Maybe we all have to have them. Very clever how you take us from childhood ambition to adult longing.
Seeing a bit of a theme emerging - my parents made me have a perm when I was about 10. (Why?) To this day I cringe at the thought of short coiffured hairstyles.

Silver Spun Sand, once again
Silver Spun Sand, once again you have created something beautiful. The fact that we all have dreams. Our parents support needed. Well in my case, my nan thinging tap was the same thing. Not the same thing. Anyone sorry been quiet lately. Had a lot going on.
Moved, new job etc. Anyway will keep more up to date now I have a computer. Good luck with future writings and feel free to read my latest. Its called Obsession.
Take care

Hi Tina,
Hi Tina,
I read this piece with great interest.
I never really had any ambitions as a small child, but can relate to the pudding basin hair cut. Though later on when I was sixteen I joined amateur dramatics. I was in a play called; 'A Murder has been Arranged,' I played one of the leading actresses. A newspaper writer said I would go far in acting, but I'm afraid that was as far as I went, which was such a shame because I so enjoyed acting...still I had the experience as I'm sure you did.
I do love ballet and also have enjoyed going to see Swan Lake, it's such a moving production. Your memories are really special and I did so enjoy reading, especially the last stanza which summed up those feelings so well.
Jenny.
