i have a little something
that i must get off my chest
you may take what parts you like
and disregard the rest
.
when someone utters "awesome"
when describing cars or shoes
i think to them, that word is lost
a tragic thing to lose
.
some see a simple little trick
they're eager to applaud
are people really all that awed
or are they simply odd ?
.
their attitudes just make me wince
my ears ring in alarm
although i know inside my mind
they do not wish me harm
.
but in a world of wonder
it's the mundane things they choose
then honor with a moniker
they really shouldn't use
.
some pass right by a miracle
to bow down to a fraud
are people really all that awed
or are they simply odd ?
.
it's not a word i use a lot
i keep it to myself
but now and then i reach for it
upon its sacred shelf
.
a sunrise in the mountains
or a sunset at the sea
the things that God supplies to us
is awesomeness to me
.
some cheer the work of artists, dull
ignoring gifts from God
are people really all that awed
or are they simply odd ?
