EPICENTER

in january , ninety four
when most were not awake
the city where the angels dwelt
was given quite a shake
.
a little baby girl was born
among the chaos, wild
they dubbed her epicenter
what a strange name for a child
.
her friends just called her eppie
no one knew her other name
for eppie kept it secret
just to keep herself from shame
.
i met her while in high school
i was wet behind the ears
i noticed she was quiet
yet seemed wise beyond her years
.
i asked her out, to my surprise
she smiled and answered yes
to think we'd end up man and wife
i never would have guessed
.
when signing legal documents
the truth was finally known
her real name was revealed to me
her cover had been blown
.
to all our friends and neighbors
she is eppie just the same
for i have been forbidden
to reveal her secret name
.
but when we lie together
with our bodies tightly curled
i call her epicenter
for she truly rocks my world
