LOOK INSIDE

we come in varied packaging
each different from the rest
and some will make distinctions
using vision as their test
you must look beneath the surface
you must open up the book
you truly need more than your eyes
to get a closer look
when you are choosing partners
you had better play it smart
its not their body's shape
it is the room within their heart
yes, beauty's often cherished
and society holds sway
but peer beneath the paint
there's more important things to weigh
is there passion in their bloodstream ?
is there laughter in their eyes ?
or a dull though lovely portrait
that is hung there in disguise ?
will they be a constant worry
or be thoughtful, sweet and kind ?
its not their body's size
it is the wonders of their mind
when we're done with life's strange novel
and we've reached the final page
with our bodies in rebellion
and our faces lined with age
all we're left with is our spirit
and the memories of yore
and that's the separation
'tween the wealthy and the poor
so look inside those outer walls
of those, there's no control
its not their body's flesh
it is their purity of soul

Alvin, once again I'm amazed
Alvin, once again I'm amazed at the consistency of your poetry. Week after week you give us great treats with your fantastic poems. I, for one, say thank you. I enjoy every one of them.
