We Three Kids from Marple Bridge are

Sending gifts we bought  from afar

Over ocean, slow in motion

Sending our best to Moma

Bits of paper, bits of string

Lot of love with what we bring

Homeward leading, fast proceeding

Offering our gifts to Moma.

 

First comes Stephie with a coat loud

Warm and padded, rain not allowed

Bright and furry, makes one purry

Easy to spot in a crowd.

Next comes Jonta, with an old book

Fat and wordy, worth a good look

Fact not fiction, perfect diction

What in the past they cooked

Last comes Andy, booked for a show

Friend comes with you,thought you should know

Sunday showing, wine glass flowing

Sitting up stairs, first in row.

Jolly good, Jean, very seasonal. I never thought of using Christmas carols but it should have been obvious at this time of the year. Well chosen.

I plan to make use of the idea when I'm with my grandchildren over Christmas. They can make up new rhymes for carols or nursery rhymes.

I got my coat for a birthday/Christmas present combined, and the theatre tickets meant that my daughter had to find out if I was free on the date - so that's why I won't have any surprises on the day. The recipe book probably won't materialise either, but it has been in the plans for some years.
