In Cherry Blossom Time
Staring at the barren twigs of winter, I mourn, I’m lost. Where did we go?
Life has left the tree a husk, it has abandoned us too. We are one with the tree. I look at the clock ticking the minutes till spring, watch as time manipulates. We were gone in the flare of a match, winter is an endless note from a morose oboe.
I returnto the moment we fell in love and we danced alone in a crowded room.Time should stop and lengthen his hours, slow his minutes, hold every second. He should never move forward to the moment you left me, when the blossom fell. I’m alone, bemused, we were never meant to be just a season.
Our cherry tree died and we were akin to the blossom, fragile and easily blown. When the last flower bloomed, the first had already cried from the tree. It dripped petals to the ground, to lie, the scattered tears of a spent relationship. How could time move on from that? Could he not see?
In the wake of the bloom, the tree bore fruit, bitter sweet cherries. The flesh, tart as the rejection of disposable love. A sweet juice trickled with the memory of intensity and the blossom’s prime.I hear time laugh; he mocks—there—between the tick and the tock, a chortle.
The ripened fruit stays long on the branch, tick, unpicked, tock. Un-tasted, un-feasted, un-gorged, and the cherry dies, turns in on itself. The flesh emaciated, the juice evaporated. My cherry is fruit no more. A blackened, husk wilted from the branch. And from neglect, it falls to lie beneath the tree.
The tree lies in state for winter, the cherry softens to pulp, the bitterness purged. Tart becomes sweet, life becomes death, time becomes more time. The pulp finds purpose, nourishing the earth, decomposing life into the tree, We have fallen too and lie beneath dormant hearts. No heartbeat, just a clock, ticking.
The bitterness and winter ebbing. ‘We’, tick, become ‘I’, tock. In spring I will soften, and be nourished from what I gained from you. And when love is in bloom, I will not remember us. Time has erased you. With spring, time will lengthen his hours, slow his minutes and stop his seconds.
The blossom will last and the heart will beat for all seasons.

I love the sincere
I love the sincere heartbreaking tone. The voice of someone yearning for something that is no more.

This is beautifully written,
This is beautifully written, I could and will read it over and over again.
'He should never move forward to the moment you left me, when the blossom fell' I found this poignant and completely relatable.
Good use of senses too!

Really Soothing2Read
Hi Sooz006. I hope your well.I think soothing was not the word I was looking for, more engaging, interesting, lovely ,calming and brilliant! that is more like it. One of my favorite lines is, 'The Blossom will last and the heart will beat for all seasons' I didn't have to copy and paste that either, like I some times need :).I also like how you chose to lay out the poem, refreshing 2 always see a writer, expressing not only in words what they want to say, but choosing the way they want it to be seen:)
I also loved how you did not use any correct literary term for 'mush' :) and by the way you should write more mush, you obviously have the talent and heart 2 write this and a wide spectrum of work.
Take care

Hi Sooz
Hi Sooz
I too thought the formatting was intentional - and that it made the prose seem more poetical.
It is beautifully written, and although sad, there is hope as well.

I love the way feelings flow
I love the way feelings flow in this writing, almost like a spiritual awakening. It felt as if your pen just took you along on a journey of emotions that just had to come out.
As you said Sooz, a very different piece from your usual, but I loved the softer side...it worked for me.
Jenny.
