there's love songs on the radio
we hear them every day
i've heard a million in my life
but never did they sway
.
i could not grasp the meaning
though i understood the word
although i knew the language
the sweet music was unheard
.
i thought these songs were bits of fluff
a bare and meager script
i never knew i owned a heart
and how it could be gripped
.
a love song needs a melody
not just words set in print
you showed me their sweet rhapsody
i never had a hint
.
i think back on these songs of love
with different points of view
they move me so profoundly, now
and all because of you
.
you've taught me how to love at last
and eased all of my strife
you've showed to me the music
given all those words new life
