I Am Not...

I am not a twitcher
who seeks a rare bird
whose Latin name
I’ve never heard;
I’m not a herbalist
who gathers flowers
and is conversant
with their healing powers,
nor am I a minstrel
who sings ballads
or else a vegan
who eats only salads.
I am not a poet
who works very hard
to be renowned
as a modern bard.
I’m just a man
of humble birth
who’s quite content
to be on this earth,
who will indulge
in laughter and mirth
and of enjoyment
knows the true worth.
You may describe me
as a philistine
but that epithet
will suit me fine.
