between a king's vast riches

and a poor man's empty pot

between a verdant garden

and a dry infertile plot

between a raging river

and the fortress of a dam

i've found a little niche

where i can be just who i am

between the gates of heaven

and the barb wire fence of hell

between the stars that glitter

and the canyons, where they fell

between the sky's cathedral

and the prison of the sea

i've found a little niche

exactly where i want to be

between a bolt of lightning

and the mark it leaves on earth

between our final evening

and the moment of our birth

between the chains that bind us

and the wings that let us fly

i've found a little niche

to watch the craziness go by
