At last – Moving! (IP)

He wriggled and squirmed,
he kicked as he yearned
to reach for that thing over there!
He stretched and he pushed,
he flexed as he wished
to change his position from here.
Maybe swim on his tum,
maybe shuffle on bum,
maybe heave on the chair ‘til he stand.
Maybe press up and roll,
or knee-shift to crawl,
maybe walk as he holds on a hand.
But somehow it comes –
he toddles and runs:
his mother so thrilled he’s begun –
soon watchful and weary,
concerned, tired, teary –
‘I have to make boundaries, my son!’

Fantastic, Rhiannon. A
Fantastic, Rhiannon. A wonderful take on the I.P. I remember so well what elation I felt when my eldest moved inside me for the first time ever. I was living with my much loved mother-in-law, and hubby was at work at Battersea Power Station. Such excitement. We were both only nineteen, and I'd love to go back there again., if I only could.
Thank you for evoking such precious memories for me, Rhiannon, and that toddler stage, so very true. Boundaries need to be set then, i.e. stairs, electrical appliances, plugs, etc. etc.
Well done on the more then deserved cherries.

Funny we long for them to move and progress and then wish they were still a babe in arms. Lovely poem.

A period of time that we
A period of time that we hardly remember, but you did it so well Rhiannonw. Like the way it's written and the details.

I enjoyed this Rhiannonw.
I enjoyed this Rhiannonw. Those moments are so brief, and stressful in a way that it's difficult to remember them clearly and when you try to recall them it can make you feel sad. You have described baby's first movements so joyfully here.

Nicely done Rhiannon, you
Nicely done Rhiannon, you have expressed the feelings of every parent and grandparents. It evokes memories of long ago with my own daughters and now going through in similar fashion with my grandson.

P.S. Truly deserving of the cherries.

Loved this poem Rhiannon.
Loved this poem Rhiannon. Those first steps are so exciting and it's amazing how suddenly it can happen. I remember with my son, he just suddenly pulled himself up on the settee and out of the blue walked across the room as if he'd been doing it for years.
So many pleasurable memories.
Jenny.
