Her steely cries plunge deep
into the stuffing of his dream. Something -
a chair - flung window-wide behind
thin plaster walls. Glass. Blood
cold silence before the sirens.
Pillow ripped from ear.
Stunned tearless in the aftermath...

Those terrifying noises a child hears whilst guessing as to what they are adds to the tension in this. I found the following lines hauntingly visual ; 'deep into the stuffing of his dream / a pillow ripped from ear'. Concise yet thought provoking.

Such sadness pictured so
Such sadness pictured so effectively and starkly. The word 'steely' got me wondering. One longs to know the 'why?' and the story, but then realises, better to realise how many situations can be like this, and how harrowing not to be able to help, and realise that relief does encompass grief, and both can be good. Certainly got me thinking and empathisisng. Rhiannon
