(Past) Tense

The world has tired me, today.
Too many scraps of ghosts of me, of them.
Too many flitting shapes at the corners.
Too draining to keep count, stay vigilant.
Billowing tendrils of yesteryear.
I use weapons.
A novel (80s bullied boy survives, grows)
Biscuits (from an old cookbook)
Shelf tidying and atticising (Blyton, horse tales.)
The old days want new me, will eat me, suck dry hard-earned adulthood.
Will leave me a shell of wonder and fear and incompetence. A mess of pages, bewilderments, baubles and mud pies. Doll''s clothes. Grazes.

I like the list form, the simplicity of this, how easy it is to identify with and yet the emotions are complex and deep - you tell it so wisely.

Agree with Vera. The third stanza is particularly stark with the list use. So many little stories behind that list. Lovely writing.
