Communication overload

Twitter, face-book, beckon me –
Do you really want to see
what I think (no need to edit),
what I’m doing every minute?
I could paint a cute façade,
– how I’d like to be perceived,
without pause to stop and think,
just press buttons as I blink;
never pondering with care,
fill the ether, must needs share
any nonsense, set in print,
(doesn’t have to be succinct);
– may one day be found, rebound
to embarrass or amuse,
libellous, haunt back to accuse.
Babble, gabble, smother sense;
golden silence gone, – immense
loss, of calm where memory’s stirred,
whispering conscience can be heard,
quiet to heed directing word,
to forgotten duties spurred.
Some communications cheer,
some can hurt, upset, cause fear,
some plant bitter thoughts like weeds
(may to violence incite,
spark infernos, youth ignite):
choose, responsibly, your seeds,
– sowing words that may do good,
much more precious than pure gold.

Hi Rhiannon
Hi Rhiannon
When I think that you wrote this very succinct piece four years ago - and how much worse the situation has become since then. I stick well clear or social media - although no doubt miss out on family things as a result. My relatives in America use it almost exclusively now, instead of writing emails. But so much of what is said seems to irrelevant and not worth saying, most of the time. I guss I am just too old to appreciate it.
