Breathing my breaths day and
night. Little puffs to stay alive.
Living life in peace and relative
Western comfort with smart
phones, multichannel tee-vee.
Watching virtual war-games
streamed to the computer for
prizes, dealing with life’s little
problems; income-tax the price
of milk or potatoes and it feels
like being at a picnic on a magic
summer day with azure above,
studiously ignoring the biggest
Cumulus Nimbi ever known on
every horizon encircling, clearly
intent on spoiling the party and
we sip our Chardonnay, seeing
no point in bringing an umbrella

This reminds me of the
This reminds me of the children's song chorus 'Row, row your boat, gently down the stream, merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily, life is but a dream.' – which I always found very irritating! though the verses were fun. Rhiannon

In the face of impending doom
In the face of impending doom we bury our heads in the sand and worry about trivialities, because we can do nothing about the bigger picure, except feel oddly guilty for self imposed ignorance by necessity. Probably over thinking - but then, I do. And this is a great poem with beautiful and atmospheric imagery.

I like the flow of that
I like the flow of that ending, Ed. After - 'studiously ignoring the biggest Cumulus Nimbi ever known...' It also shows that the lack of an umbrella is no mistake, but a decision based on obsevation. Now where's that Chardonnay ? I need one.
