The Ultimate Outcome (IP)

The result of the anger
was drinking,
which led to a lack of
quick thinking:
the result of the lapse
– car crashed,
with consequent shock –
leg smashed;
confined with much pain,
frustration,
but time to give thought,
reflection,
on what could have been,
if others
had got in his way,
with mothers
bereft of a child,
admitted
his folly and weakness,
he needed
good friends to support him
in changing
and God’s help, if asked for,
far ranging;
so the ultimate outcome,
of temper
was a chance to take stock
and live better,
of dangers and patience
to learn,
make a grateful and lasting
U-turn.

I too thought this a great I P Rhiannnon. I also think there's a message here, that it's never too late to change our ways, as like love_writing said, in the U turn at the end.

Really liked tha momentum of this poem, learning from consequences, a good and upbeat message.

Thanks, I'm glad it came over like that. The idea of a trail of consequences came into my mind from the old 'For the want of a nail …', but I thought it was good to think of how good can come eventually from what at first seems like a series of disasters. Rhiannon
