Story's End

The story’s end begins
With the feathers
Of a warm goldfinch
Lying at a roadside
Where traffic breeze
Fluffed its down
I lifted the body
And was startled
By the beauty
Of its wine-red face
I pleaded for resurrection
Sweet wine burnt
Acid on my lips
I blew the filth
From the bird’s
Wine-red face
And touched my fingers
On tiny claws
And golden wings
I laid the corpse
On its side on a sheet
Of cotton wool
I slept quickly to dawn
When it flew from the
Opening door
Sweet wine burnt
Acid on my lips

I think I would be thrilled
I think I would be thrilled to find such a little corpse to see such detail, and maybe feel, and your description really brought that to me. But I'm afraid I don't understand the 'Sweet wine burnt Acid on my lips' phrase, or what happens at the end. Rhiannon

Sadly, we often only get to
Sadly, we often only get to appreciate beauty close up when there's death involved. Your poem captured this.

Lovely jewel-like description
Lovely jewel-like description, just love the idea of it flying off.. A flavour of the brevity and beauty of life, feels like the wine reference adds to this.
