Fair maiden lay helpless against a rock
In barren, rough terrain, blistering hot.
 
Trapped by Enemy guardian who sought 
a sinister quest for which she was brought.
 
Woefully she waited with a blush and sigh,
despondent as the days went by.
 
For the noble prince that failed to appear
and her plaintive cries he failed to hear.
 
"O what o what will become of me?"
She wailed to herself so helplessly.
 
Her dainty fingers grasping her head,
she resigned herself, lost to dead.
 
She looked at her finger 
and engagement ring
 
thought of hopes and dreams 
to which she ought to cling...
 
Then out of the dust inspiration struck,
and told her she was no more stuck
 
than the birds that flew in the sky above,
as long as her heart still held love...
 
A voice said...
 
Stop being so feeble get a grip,
stick out that chin, stiff upper lip.
 
You are not weak, for you posses,
all kinds of weapons up that dress.
 
Take off that girdle to which you cling
and with those rocks you have a sling.
 
Use your wiles and take out your foes
and bring your nightmare to a close.
 
with a twang and snap of underwear,
she aimed her shot true and clear.
 
Dragon defeated, struck down on loam,
The princess proudly set off for home.
 
On her way back to her far off land 
She saw her prince, who took her hand - 
 
"Oh fair princess - so glad I found thee... 
now you can sigh relief and marry me.
 
I came for your rescue and kingdom rule"
Said he, kneeling by moonlit pool.
 
She looked deep into his gallant face
Thought: don't want to give up my place! 
 
I saved myself, I defeated foe. 
I can lead my own army, I can reign alone!
 
"Don't bother" she said - and gave back his ring,
I can rule it myself - and she pushed him in.

It would be nice if she stopped being a wimp, but refrain from being overbearing, and there could be some mutual helping, or even sensible romance?! Rhiannon

The prince wanted to swoop in when it was convenient for him so he could look oh so gallant, marry her and take over her kingdom. No way man.

i love rhyming couplets and the inverting of fairy tales, especially enjoyed the prince being shoved in the pool... just hoping that the object she  catapulted in her girdle might have some added significance.

Lol. I liked the end too. I will think about the catapult some more. The whole thing needs work but I thought it would amuse.

It's so good to have a last woman standing in the fairytale. Love how you've subverted the genre and given it lots of skirt.Rhyme doesnt miss a beat.

Oh my gosh! Imagine. I don't think I could write one with that title unless it was some kind of metaphor - too graphic for my sensitive nature.
