Monochrome Morning
By Ed Crane
- 1996 reads
The window promises nothing
but grey sky scudded by grey
clouds. Grey-greens and whites
have seen better days, rare reds
stripped of radiance, dulled blues
merge to bland. Stark blackness
of trees’ winter washed to charcoal
by drizzle’s blanket. When hidden
behind curtains, the bed’s inviting,
and reminding us spring is too far
away, but . . . tomorrow is another day.

The washing out of colour and
The washing out of colour and gleam makes me think of Thomas Hood's 'November' (No …, no …, no… – November!) Such days do make us appreciate the sunny days even if they be cold! Rhiannon
Should the title have an 'r' in it?
