Omar's Diary for Thursday 17th March 2016 - Budgets,Omarnomics, Ryanair & Cheltenham

Once again the day dawned clear and as the sun rose so did my optimism and hope for my two selections at Cheltenham but more of that later.

Yesterday, Wednesday 16^th March, saw the Servants’ government present its annual budget.  Man Servant and I had a few minutes to look at the paper.  There were lots of pictures of a servant in a suit carrying a red brief case outside a big house and then the same man standing in a crowded room leaning against a big wooden table.  This annual budget must be very important.  I do mine once a week without a red brief case or standing in a crowded room.  That is how I calculated that I could have ten Dreamies to spend on horses at Cheltenham.  I do not carry a deficit on Dreamies or kibble like the Servant country does with something called 'pounds'. What I do is enable myself to have some fun occasionally by deferring my consumption until a later date by building a stockpile.  Man Servant has suggested we could call this ‘Omarnomics’.   I think that has quite a nice sound to it, ‘Omarnomics’.  Yes, that does sound rather good.

Man Servant and I had a look at some of the key points from the budget and decided that it was not too bad as he does not drink sweet drinks. He was pleased that fuel duty was unchanged as prices at the pumps seem to be heading north by themselves quite nicely.  I did not see any headlines about extra taxes going on kibble or Dreamies so from my own perspective the budget was not too bad for me either. Lady Servant was too tired to be concerned.

Apparently there is a member of the servant species named Michael O’Leary who owns Ryanair which all servants know charges for everything possible.  He had several horses running at Cheltenham today and normally servant jockeys charge a fee for their rides.  Well, Michael O’Leary was the only owner who charged the jockeys yesterday plus extra for sitting.

That was one of Man Servant’s racey jokes that comes out once a year.  I have to let him tell it as part of our arrangement for typing and publishing my diary.

The optimism and hope that rose within me at sunrise started to fade very quickly when the results from Cheltenham started to arrive.  My first choice was ‘If In Doubt’ which came home in third place and I had backed it to win.  Then hope and optimism were wiped out completely when my second horse ‘Dynast’ came seventh.  Just like the Bee Gees hit ‘It’s a Tragedy’.  At least I am honest about my failures and it is only for fun as I have budgeted ten Dreamies for this week.

I would like to have collected some winnings from the Chav who is hedging my wagers this week. However I have a suspicion that Chav, see picture above, does not quite understand the concept of betting and may well have consumed my Dreamie stakes.  I notice her Dreamie bag is empty so I wonder how Chav will pay me if these two horses win.
