I can't Sleep

I can't sleep
and as I lie here
tucked between the sheets
hearing the passing ticks and tocks
of time and night, waning
like a man stranded
in an ocean riddled with
thoughts of black and
blue eyed dreams
I let myself
sink
in the waves.
But I can't go to shore-
I'm still
teeth clenched on pen;
paper in hand
restlessly shuffling
words that roll out of my tongue.
Desperate to put life
to describe moments
when my mind
lingers far.
When the smell of rain on crooked pavement,
And bustling noises of city streets
Fade...
And my soul is far away,
with you.
