A PAIR OF NEEDLES

there was a little needle
who had found he'd gone astray
he'd lost the field, magnetic
where he'd pointed everyday
.
he had no recollection
of the path that he'd laid forth
he found that he was going south
with no clue where was north
.
there was another needle
and she'd found she was adrift
each day just spinning wildly
in the atmospheric shift
.
she'd truly lost direction
couldn't focus eye to eye
a pretty little needle
just a-tumbling from the sky
.
they both fell from the heavens
but survived their lofty fall
they found that they were earthbound
and they both were forced to crawl
.
as blind as newborn kittens
through the darkened land they passed
two needles in a haystack
found each other there at last
