‘Oh, leg, run, catch the bus,
move quickly,’ said the head;
‘I’m tired, don’t rush me, fuss
– I’d rather stay in bed!’

‘Stop!’, said the watchful eye,
‘or in that hole we’ll fall!’
but crash! soon there they lie –
the head ignored eye’s call.

The hand was asked to hold
– one finger wouldn’t grip,
and do what it was told
– the vase began to slip.

‘Hey! all you parts of me!
no one of you is boss!
We work together, see,
or all our life’s a mess.’

Organs independent,
supporting skills and gift
to complement, though different,
not separately drift.

In families and nation,
we need, at home, abroad,
esteem, co-operation,
not malice and discord.

I think there's some kind of biblical injunction against this, the eye cannot tell the hand...but, yeh, we so anyway and let slip.

yes, thanks Celt, the idea came from the passage in the first letter to the Corinthians chapter 12, about diversity of gifts among God's people, but all given to help and benefit each other and the whole.

I thought, apart from making a fun story of it, it also applied to all humanity, as a principle. And yes, we do slip, but it doesn't hinder having the principle and the spur there wherever we are placed at the moment, and in national and international affairs, despite being often hurt by others. So much here was true and if we were all one part of a whole...oh yes.. we are aren't we...then truly we need to all work together...and love is all we need. All we need is Love.

Thanks, Penny4athought. Love and forebearance. And we benefit, too, so easy to live just for self, but our loss. As I said to Celt, we need it as an aim, even though we slip. (and need to ask forgiveness and divine help) Rhiannon

I could identify with this, as getting older, I feel a real difference between what I think I can do, and what I can actually do.
