Visiting Aberedw Rocks

Leaving home in the milky mist,
blue sky emerges as we travel west,
park in a village close to the Wye,
little river Edw bubbling by
to meet the big river, increase its flow.
Along this pleasant sound we walk,
and then climb up, with paths cut through
the rampant bracken leading to
the hilltop, rocky outcrops guarding
look like ruined walls overgrown
of ancient fortress now half-buried;
– and perch for lunch to see afar,
Black Mountains high and Pen y Fan
– double peaks of Brecon Beacons;
here there is gorse and heather,
wend down and round again through bracken
pass solitary hawthorns –
red fruit catch the sunlight,
a sheep stands on watch on a look-out ledge.

Hi Rhiannon,
Hi Rhiannon,
this lovely meander took me back in time, to peaceful country walks where there's nothing more beautiful than the Welsh natural surroundings, that digress us away from the hubbub of noisy cities and towns.
Engaging poem and thank you for sharing.
Jenny.

You make me want to be there,
You make me want to be there, out in the wilds,seeing the red fruit catch the sunlight.

Lovely evocation of a family
Lovely evocation of a family day out. I really enjoyed this and, like Jenny, it took me back to some happy times.

HI Rhiannon
You always bring your walking trips to life with your poetry. My daughters are keen on going on holiday in Wales.
