On Winter Bleakness

A sodden, dreary, weary gloomy day;
cloud-ceiling low and leaden, glum and grey.
Slight lift – the silhouetted tree-lace sways
and draws our eyes from sludge where mulch decays.
The watery winter sunshine and the breeze
brain, face refresh – we wonder, ‘Will it freeze,
ice patterns cover all with crystals fine
in decorations delicate, sublime,
reflecting weakly sun to give more light
and clothing muck and undergrowth in white?
or carpetting in soft, thick swathes of snow
(which soon to dirty sloshy slush must go)?
But some days bring surprise that always cheers
– breathtaking sunset fire behind the trees.

Hi Rhiannon,
Hi Rhiannon,
capturing the essence of even the bleakest of days can still hold a beauty that nature provides.
I bet you are enjoying your walks in your part of the world with all that countryside. Always love to read about your nature rambles. We too have had some wonderful icy cold days that leave the garden looking magical.
Enjoyed reading.
Happy New Year to you and yours.
Jenny.
