Tim Timpany -
geasachd collector, collected
missiless mayflies sympathy,
wi' osteous care and venon
an' wantin' for arsurous empathy.
 
Wi' a haerened net 
an' coptuate jar, 
he had he hame-drauchtit pleasure,
Tepals insects finfling board 
an' bottles of ketal and ether.
 
Sammying slowly
tae the waters edge,
he waited a the hittock's lance
an' watched them picket merrily 
across the mirrored expanse.
 
They fithered...
their tippity steps ary,
nervously, feeling at loss,
warily eyeing Tim Timpany, 
not more than a kithert across.
 
he waited -
hands haud acrix,
patient be Tim wi' zen.
Cusing languid face a calm
like ebony bound aspen glen.
 
Mayfly pittered close
to see if friend was he to she.
Fears at lang overcame,
curiosity overtook,
syne loss in hypnotic glane. 
 
Once she confined,
iriduous sopets suffocated
with a tipture of turanulous rife,
pitiful - gasping breath
an' a final fight for life.
 
He watched fascinated,
an iddish rapture upon his face.
Struggle ceased, finally stin.
He placed her in a listney frame,
held fast with a chitinous pin. 
 
Mayfly crested,
Cretched, forgotten, wretched,
amoured briefly, syne awa' she forn.
Geasachd wantin' empathy - 
ne'er rest you lippen upon.

This is fascinating, though I'm not one for nonsense poetry on the whole, but my husband was saying recently that his memories of Jaberwocky were that he thought most of the words had derivation from real words, if you could go into it, and just so I felt here, if I had the time, many of your words would probably have interesting roots, and having the general theme of the poem, I felt I was partly understanding a story without catching all the words, sometimes thinking it was English I was reading/listening to, and sometimes feeling it a foreign language or dialect! Your video was very well done, and a delight to watch/listen to. Rhiannon

Thanks Rhinnanon. Im glad you liked it. I have to be honest, I had such tremendous fun writing it and learning to say it. It's one of my favourite poems of my own.

Congratulations. I've no idea of the authenticity of the Scottish - and you might find it safer not to promote it that way (it's almost impossible to be 100% correct) - but I thought it just worked really well as a poem, regardless of proposed accent. These things are universal (or ought to be).

Its not a true Scottish tale, it's a Scottish inspired nonsense verse that is fiction I made up myself. It's just for some reason, when I was writing it, I heard it in a scottish voice, so I added some Scottish Gaelic words - it's mostly gibberish. I'm hoping you still managed to pick out a story from it though. 

 

Have you ever written a poem and heard it in a strangers voice? Or am I going a bit weird?

Haha, yes I am indeed Irish if indeed it is I be referred to, but from scots or from ire, we're all scuts full of ire,

Loved this poem. Speaking of celtishness, I thought of Finnegan's Wake while reading it.

Wow, I just watched the video with the reading. It's done so well.  Love to hear or see someone read their work.  I only ever do it in the pub when the hours are wee and wound.  Much respect! smiley

This is great and the accent's spot on. Every och erd is heard with a click and a spit. Video's great and has a fine storyteller feel to it. Loved the Yeats covers too!
