Earth Colours

Dark brown,
white drifts down,
covers,
clears;

myriad blades
pierce, spread:
green up;

soon the glades
lush spattered,
patterned red,
yellow, pink, blue;

in heat hot
green fades
yellowing;

cooling, cold
(a burst of red, rust, gold);

the hues rot down
to dark earth-brown
to shield and nourish
the next green flourish.

Thanks, Celt. Yes, nice not to be in colourless world! I was musing on the colour pattern change throughout the year after hearing the terms 'green up' and 'brown up' for the coming of spring and hot summer in a nature programme. Rhiannon

I agree the colours we have here on our planet are wonderful. It's only when you really come to think about it or read a piece like your poem that you realize just how incredibly lucky we are to have them.

Yes, there's variety even in winter isn't there, and the circular changes as the year moves on and around again. God has shown something of his character and kindness in the world he's given us. Thanks for reading and commenting. Rhiannon

Your poem made me think of the musical about Joseph, where his technicolour dreamcoat is described. Lovely, magical.

I don't actually know the musical, or how close it is to the wonderful Bible account of Joseph's troubles and faith. My translation actually calls the famous robe 'richly ornamented', but I suppose this accentuates how we all like bright colours, and the changing face of our seasonal world is particularly attractive in the spring we await, but even now there are beauties to see.
