Cars

The road ahead seems closer,
the rear view mirror shows
just how far we’ve come,
objects can seem further away
sooner, faster, older.
The first car is the best car,
steamed windows and cramped
love-making in the back,
until a window tap moves us on.
The next car is the sensible car,
candy treats and seat belts
and no-smoking, tight-lipped
silence, in front of the children.
The third car is the fast car,
a drop-head coupé with blonde
and alimony payments included,
wind-blowing through thin hair.
The ambulance is chasing us,
siren on, lights flashing,
a thumbs-up grin
when it pulls alongside.
The last car is no fast car,
its load is the flowers and the box
and we are judged by our motorcade
while those left behind
discuss the will over Pabst and Gatorade.

Love the poem - great take on
Love the poem - great take on the journey through the life. I do like the image as well. Just wondering though - is it free to reproduce eg under some sort of creative commons licence? I had a look at the website and I couldn't see anything about a general permission to reproduce, I'm not sure if just the acknowledgement is enough. Sorry - just the 'please don't sue us' hat on!
