Only one Song

There was only one song
in the woods in the pitch of night –
from the Onyx Bird, from the Thief
and the Fiery Kite.
From the Olive Beak in the crook
of the slumber trees
from the Glitterfinch, like a star
on the cooling breeze.
All the singing birds – and each
with a different call - looked to the East
as darkness began to fall.
There was only one song
in the woods, in the pitch of night.
And the song said
light -
and will always -
wait for the light.

Original yet timeless. Great
Original yet timeless. Great names for the birds. Echoes for me of the Bible and Kipling and Buddha, all in a good way. Let the light shine in all of us and we also need the dark to know what light is and to find where we are.

Goethe
According to tradition the great German writer Goethe on his deathbed, the last words were "Mehr Licht!" More Light! and who can forget Dylan Thomas who wrote, "do not go gentle into that good night" for his father. And immortal, Bob Dylan "knocking on heaven's door". Personally I would prefer easy gentle and peaceful.
Your words are as beautful! & Nolan
