Un Dia en Las Palmas

Morning skies, unblemished as infant skin
paint turquoise on white fringed Atlantic
waves washing black ash beaches, flecked
with occasional ivory cowry thumbnails.
Conical piles of sleeping volcanic vents cut
a saw tooth landscape dwarfing cringing
ocean-front edificios on red tiled boulevards.
City parks are alive with green punk-headed
Dragons bathing under Cancer’s sun and
as the day moves on, El Cielo’s azul will bow
to the cool grey pelt of, La Panza de Burro
until El Sol shaves the fur for his evening show.
