Retreat

...woke up this morning to
another beautiful day
sliced sun streams through
the stained glass window
tiny birds chirp and flutter as
they feed from the seed box
that rattles against the frame
of all the rooms in the old house
this is my favourite one
ancient creaking floor boards
smell sweetly of beeswax
exotic potted plants
weep gentle fragrances.
musty old curtains and cushions
with their silk and applique textures
soothing to the touch.
outside they are clearing
part of the old plantation to
makeway for new growth
chain saws buzz and
tractor engines labour
as they haul felled trees away
to be cut and shaped
into a myriad of uses
wood smoke drifts over
filtering through the window
with it a blend of intoxicating moss
and freshly cut grass
to inhale deeply…

You draw a soothing and refreshing picture, with envigorating and relaxing aromas and sounds. Yes, it sounds a lovely spot to unwind and drink all that in. Rhiannon

Hi, this is an attractive piece. Loved the olfactories that give the poem sensuality!

Highly soporific, this little gem, torscot...not only that, but it made me feel quite warmly drowsy,
into the bargain. Personally, I cannot go to sleep at night without smothering myself, and my pillow with lavender essence.
Seriously though, an emotive poem, and the best of luck with it in the competition, plus your other entries which I look forward to reading.

Lovely. Is this an actual retreat house? I discovered Gaia House back in Jan and plan to do another 3 day retreat there early next year.
