Top supernatural power

‘Throw down your stick –
it will become a snake’,
and it did.

The magicians by their secret arts did likewise,

but Aaron’s stick ate up the rest.

Water to blood, plagues of frogs –
copied again,
but then
they could copy no more:
‘This is the finger of God’, the magicians said,
as their imitation wonder-making ceased

and
they could not stop the plagues God sent.

Pharaoh asked that the frogs be removed
‘When?’ Moses asked. ‘Tomorrow’
– this God did.

“It will be as you say,
so that you may know there is no-one
like the Lord our God.”

Was is by trickery or demonic power
the magicians did their wonders?
Demons flee when commanded by One greater,
they know their power curtailed, restrained,
will soon be totally doomed.
