January

January
means time to dress-up warm
and seek season’s flavour.
Cast your eyes up high
and appreciate nature’s gift
surrounded by a natural
flow --- mature pines tipped
with silver leftovers from winter
snow that
overwhelmed the land.
Partridge watch from the safety
of ever-expanding boughs
as deer step quietly into shadows.
Our snowshoes take flight
on what feels like cake-icing.
The trail we left behind no longer
a dream but a memory
and the campfire we enjoyed with a cup
of coffee still warm inside
as our spirits hurry us back home.
