That Song

We sang him that song
till his heart
stopped beating.
‘In my life
I love you more. . .’
My wife
his fiancé
and I
Hovering over him
like weary surgeons
looking for vital signs.
Was that a smile?
Does he hear?
Does he know?
We sang that song
just weeks before
To he and his girl.
A surprise proposal.
The Hernshead at
Central Park.
Cheery-eyed then.
Glassy-eyed now.
Saying goodbye.
Till his heart
stopped beating.

I too hope he heard your song
I too hope he heard your song. Such a tender caring moment shared is very sad but also emotionally special.
I was at my dad's bedside when he took his last breath, we played, Enya's: 'Paint The Sky With Stars.' to him, I'm sure he heard, as Enya was one of his favorite singers.
Nice tribute and thinking of you.
Jenny.
