It’s great to be from Belfast on St Patricks day

even though you know that you’re ten thousand miles away   ,

sipping on a Guinness , sitting on your own

the mind begins to wander back to the place  you still call home

Drinking in the Shamrock Club , or up at the Forum Star , singing songs of the

civil rights with one hand on a jar ,  then it all comes back , you’re half a world

away , as you’re sipping on a pint of stout on St Patricks Day .

Memories of Belfast , frozen pipes and icy glass , frosty white garden paths

and  the shawed heels walking fast trying to get to Sunday mass before the

homily has passed then back down to the Shamrock , with your hand upon a

glass

When ever you look back and you think about the past , there’s always some wee story to bring up just for laughs , handball on a gable for all those fit and able or with two pennies and a sixpence you could play football on the table .

Its great to be from Belfast even if you go away you’ll always think of about

your home on St Patricks Day , thinking of you over there  while I’m drinking

on my own , cheers to you all over there , in the place that I call home .
