This is the cafe in the park

where the whales come for breakfast, 

between the hours of 8 and 9.45am.

It is waitresss service only and each whale has a favourite table.

 

Throughout the year, whatever the weather,
the gardeners sculpt and plant the sea bed 
and sometimes 
they sing in harmony with the mottled light 
which dances on the skin 
of the air bubbles 
as they contort upwards 
in perpetuity 
 
The whales are not big conversationalists.
They prefer to sit in 
silence,
punctuated by the 
rattle and hum of bone china 
and the sea swoon swoosh
as their giant tails 
obfuscate far into 
the silken vermillion 
 
This is a place for contemplation 
which has been unchanged 
for a hundred thousand generations.
It is a place of silent thunder  
where the vestigial fronds
of sentience are born.
It is a place we can never inhabit, or own 
but if it dies
we die.

The Whale Cafe has just opened round the corner from where I work - think it's a different whale cafe though (http://www.unicen.cam.ac.uk/food-and-drink/places-eat/out-university-cen...)
