He tried.  He knows he did.  He fought and fought and fought and fought.  Tried to make a round peg of himself; but his edges would just keep popping out.

Blood red recriminations.

Dark nights spent alone.

He doesn’t know why she shies away from him, or where she’s gone.

this matching pair are quite a departure for you! Have you tried flash before? I really liked the way in which you balance the two sides

I've done some flash before (for Flash Frontier, Everyday Fiction and 365 Tomorrows, plus a bunch of other places that didn't publish the stories).  This is probably the shortest though, I'm normally working to limits of 1000, 700, 250 or 100 words.
