Visiting Mom

Where will you
sleep tonight?
In the spare room,
where I always go.
Is there any
bedding in there?
Yes loads. It’s fine.
Goodnight darling.
Night night Mom.
But where will you
sleep tonight?
In the spare room,
where I always go.
Is there any
bedding in there?
Yes loads. It’s fine.
Goodnight then darling.
Night night Mom.
Will you sleep
on the settee?
No, in the spare room.
But is there any
bedding in there?
Yes loads. It’s fine.
Goodnight then darling.
Night night Mom.
Hello? Who’s that?
It’s just me,
going for a wee.
Oh, what a surprise!
I’m so glad you’ve come.

Shows so simply. My mother-in-law lost short term memory (not then as acutely as this) suddenly, but long before other memory or comprehension loss, though she had always had a problem of sharing her feelings. Rhiannon

This little piece tells us
This little piece tells us everything. I can imagine how these visits must take your energy and leave you feeling drained. Life goes on for as long as it does and love with it I suppose. It's very touching writing actually.

This is so moving. But she is still there, still responds, knows it's you, knows that you love her. You have expressed the depth of your relationship so well so simply

I know this
place, although it's just gone from my life.
This is a moving poem, remarkable in the simplicity of its concept, which only makes it all the more remarkable.
Well done.
Best
