You are never far away from me.
No, not if we are separated by a thousand oceans,
Nor if a mountain, if a mountain range,
Claws its way out of the ground to impede us.
Nay, not if a world-enveloping storm should boil up out of the ocean,
Nor if fire should consume the world.
No, not if a wall that stretched to the moon,
Or if a beanstalk should grow, and keep growing,
Until it became a hedge of beans and razor thorns.
No, not if any force on earth,
We will never be apart.
You are always in my thoughts.
Though a herd of buffalo might storm through the middle of town,
Though a dragon might fly out of the sun,
Though the ground might open up and flowers might grow,
Each one opening to reveal a lump of gold beneath amongst petals.
Even should a million dollars fall at my feet,
Or a two-headed talking dog in bright pink pyjamas take the time to talk to me,
Though a portal might open to another world,
Or the sky might come tumbling down in segments, mistaken at first for rain.
Still, I would never be distracted.
You are always in my heart.
Though I might walk the streets and see a wounded bird
Lying on the pavement, struggling with every breath,
Though I might stoop to lift it out of harm’s way;
Though a hungry child might stare up at me wide-eyed and trusting,
Though a stray kitten might follow me home;
Or a beautiful woman might walk up to me and take my hand in hers,
And make the golden promises I could believe from only her,
Though she might whisper in my ear,
Brush my cheek with her sunrise lips,
Still it is you who remains inside my heart.

Goes to the heart,
Goes to the heart, rosaliekempthorne.
I love the image, by the way.
