Is This True?

Recently I bump into an old friend, we went for a coffee, like me, she has always been quirky with plenty to say. She gave me plenty of food for thought by the time we left and went our separate ways.
She has done very well for herself and is very clever with her degrees.
Amongst other things she told me, “I no longer believe the Earth is round, it is flat,” I didn’t know what to say at first, but I did say, “I disagree,” When I found my tongue.
She went on to say, “There are no such things as satellite’s in the sky” This shocked me, and I said, “What about when we make phone calls?”
I mentioned someone I knew had recently had the flu jab, she said, “The flu jab now is very dangerous, there are too many people alive today and they have to find other ways to kill people off, so in the new flu jab is lots of bad things like mercury and cancer cells…..“ That did scare me a bit, for the person who had the flu jab is dear to me, and I myself have never had or would ever have the flu jab. I wished that the person who had the flu jab recently didn’t, but it can’t be undone. She went on to say a lot of wackier things, but it made me think.
Is it all true?

conspiracy theories are great
conspiracy theories are great for uniting people. when common sense tells you soomething you've got to look again, but the lies people tell themselves are the most insidious of all. If we turn around the popular jib we use with politicians, 'why is this lying bastard, lying?' to why is this person lying to themselves, I think you'll get nearer to the trurth.

The influenza epidemic of
The flu epidemic of 1918 killed millions of people, far more than the first world war did, so if the powers that be really want to reduce the population, stopping the flu jab would be one of the best ways to do it. The jab is isn't perfect, it can't protect against everything, but it's better than nowt, as they say in my part of the world! It's the same thing with MMR vaccines for children - they're not perfect, but if you've ever seen a child blinded or killed by measles, or think back to the days when unborn children were badly affected if their mums caught rubella, you have no doubt it's a good thing. Doesn't mean we shouldn't demand any medicines are scrupulously tested and any problems looked in to.
This person is definitely not more clever than you are! Education doesn't mean smart. Lots of highly educated people are remarkably stupid - look at Boris Johnson. Celtic is right - people believe in daft conspiracy theories because of some deep inadequacy of their own. You pretty much nailed it when you pointed out that we make phone calls via satellites. Also, we don't fall off the edge of the world.

Maybe she's been soaking
Maybe she's been soaking things up from someone she likes, without giving thought or research or investigation, maybe she likes to be controversial and repeat what seem to be shocking things without thinking of the consequences of fear or the rightness of what she is saying … Wisdom is different from academic 'cleverness' that can misuse limited knowlege and drink in and pass on false statements.
