The Beginning of the Rainbow

A long time ago a legend was told about a Pot of Gold at the end of a rainbow. And about two young boys who dreamed about finding that treasure.
Cameron and Kyle were those two young boys. They didn’t have a lot of stuff in their lives. They were determined to have more, and the only way was to find that pot of gold.
They picked a perfect night to go searching. They tied a lot of sheets together to make a strong rope, and climbed out the window. What a surprise they would have for their parents with bags of gold. It was not easy to keep their plan a secret, and now their search began.
On their way they met up with a wizard. “Hello, young boys. What are you doing outside, this late by yourselves?” the wizard asked.
Kyle then spoke. “Well sir, we come from a tiny village, about a mile back. My family is very poor, and I’m looking for the legend.”
You know about the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow!” Cameron shouted.
“Oh yes indeed,” said the wizard waving his wand. “Here take this. It will help you on your way,” explained the wizard smiling.
Cameron and Kyle both looked down. In their hands they were holding a map. They quickly looked up to say “Thank You.” But the wizard had disappeared.
Both boys jumped up for joy then continued on their way. A pair of very tired feet later, they heard a little voice. Stopping in their tracks they turned around.
“Did you hear that?” Kyle asked his younger brother Cameron.
“Kyle, I’m really scared. I don’t like this dark,” Cameron cried.
All of a sudden, about a million fireflies came and lit up the whole area. Now they could see a little figure in front of them, sitting on the ground.
“You leave my gold alone. You can’t have it, it’s mine.”
Glowing light from the fireflies shone on the figure which turned out to be a leprechaun.
“Oh, I’m sorry. my family is really poor, and the pot of gold would help out,” explained Kyle.
“Well,” the leprechaun said, “if you can find it, you can have it since you seem to need it. But there’s no guarantee you’ll find it, so good luck. He…He…He,” the leprechaun laughed along his way.
Then Kyle and Cameron continued on their own way, for what seemed like hours.
Then all of a sudden they saw a set of stairs heading upward towards the stars in the sky. They looked on their map where an arrow pointed at the stairs. Kyle and Cameron began to climb, and held tightly onto each other’s hand. They were soon puffing and huffing, from climbing.
“Oh Cameron, I don’t think I can go anymore. I’m just too tired. We’ll have to stop for a rest, “Kyle told Cameron.
“No we can’t, we don’t have time. Besides, we have to get back home before ma, and pa notice we’re gone. All of a sudden Cameron looked up. “Hey look!” he said.
“It’s the…the rainbow!” the boys shouted together.
Even though the boys were tired they began to run, right to the top of the stairs, never stopping, not even once.
After they reached the top of the rainbow, they sat down. Then began to slide to until they saw, sitting on a white cloud, was the pot of gold shining in the firefly night.
The boys rubbed their eyes in amazement. Were they dreaming? They weren’t. What a surprise they now had for mom and dad.
Yes indeed, it was quite a surprise as their parents did a noisy dance around the yard.
The Beginning...

Note: About 15 years ago a dear friend of my wife, Esther and I, wished to be a writer and we chatted about it a lot & exchanged many ideas. She wrote a story we worked on and for some reason it ended up on the shelf when she moved away as we lost touch. I found it again, revamped and did much editing. The result is this story. I could not find her to see what she thought and felt it had to be shared with the public, under our co-authorship. Hello out there Kim, from
Richard & Esther.

a rainbow that never ends
What a lovely little story! I would just want to change "The End" to "The Beginning" and "The End of the Rainbow" with "The Beginning of the Rainbow."
Thanks for an inspirational little story! &&
