Seriously…..! Is There ANY Other Colour?
M’lud, the defence offers the following evidence in the case of Grey vs The Rainbow…
The colour Grey commands centre stage and is quite clearly an omission from the prejudicial and may I say somewhat biased rainbow.
I now present to you the facts as recorded by many in history. Song, sage writings, practical applications in abundance and the only colour to survive the bleaching rays of our nearest star.
Was it not the Singer-Song Writer Marty Robbins who wrote…
‘Grey, grey, my love is grey
Cold is my heart since you went away…’?
Did not Lord Grey assist the passage of one of the most momentous Parliamentary reforms ever to shape our land in 1832?
When we are called to recession is it not Earl Grey tea your your Worship imbibes in his chambers?
Did not Oscar Wilde, one of the greatest literary minds and razor wit of his time choose Grey as the name for his central character condemned to eternal youth by a pact with the devil?
Consider if you will the navy’s of the world. They patriotically emblazon the colours of their nation in victory, but slip stealthily around the oceans in uniform Battleship Grey.
Did satire not command Mort Sahl to say of President Gerald Ford that if he took LSD he would see Grey vividly? Whilst on that point did he not once fall down some steps that just happened to be Grey?
We should not forget the Grey-painted Prime Minister of the 90s portrayed by a less than reverent TV satire show; who made Clark Kent look positively dynamic compared to John Major.
What becalms our airports and the heaving oceans? Kaleidoscope colours in laser bright arrays? No, Grey! It is the Devil’s blanket that calms and stills us all.
Whilst the gaudy terracotta colours adorn many a continental dwelling, it is Slate Grey that shields many a soul’s humble home in our glorious Albion.
Could you imagine the confusion of enemy aircraft…”aim for that Grey roof” “which bloody Grey roof….they’re ALL Grey!”
Why even in football the thousands of Geordie faithful file past the Grey Monument in Newcastle in their distinctive ***** & ***** shirts (colours omitted under Inspiration Rules).
I could go on M’lud but the Grey looks on the faces of the Prosecution make compelling evidence for the ONLY colour that truly rules our lives.
The Defence rests.

Photos in black and white and
Photos in black and white and shades imbetween (grey!) and such films, do bring out something of what is going on and the pattern of light and shadow that gets overwhelmed in the detail of colour photos/films. Like in the weak moonlight where only grey shades show. Rhiannon

Very amusing, Graham. Don't
Very amusing, Graham. Don't forget a certain Prime Minister that 'Spitting Image' portrayed as a 'grey man': John Mayor.
Cheers, Luigi.

Interesting, this made me
Interesting, this made me aware of just what an omnipresent colour grey is, the area between black and white where most reasonably minded people reside and also the colour of their actual minds. I love the final line.

Congratulations on having two of your stories being Pick of the Day on successive days.

Amusing argument about the strengths of greyscale
I think the rules would allow you to mention black and grey (or even gray) in the same piece, but not white since black is the total lack of colour (or even color) while white is the melange of all colours. (Making Newcastle shirts Black and *****).
Therefore grey/gray is a colour; a kind of diluted white. Now I think about it, there is no difference between grey/gray and the rainbow in terms of colour except a rainbow shows them off, so grey/gray is just a rather secretive diluted rainbow.
As you probably remember from school white light is just a blend of primary colours and black the absence of visible light. Reflected white is all primary colours reflected; black is the lack of reflected primary colours. Grey colour is more or less an mixture of two pigments one which reflects all light and one that adsorbs all visible light. . . .
Ok, nerd-blurb over. :)
Fun read congrats on the golden cherries
