The pig nest

There is a pig nest
horse eye violet
and threaded with wool and steel
in the upper branches
of the lurching night willow
The pig nest is invisible,
neither squinting upwards
from the forest floor
nor skimming the crepuscular sky
offers even the
refraction
of its beguiling filigree
Two by two piglet
eyes
grasp shrill glimpses of
the world,
below:
on the shatter-ground
a herd of tractors scatter from a water hole
at the sight of a skulking
lion ant
above:
a mosaic
of swooning pepper sun ferns
and positronic clouds
Soon enough
it will be time for the piglets
to leave their nest
ushered by snout and tail
some will swirl on the breeze
with the bees and spitfires
and some will join the fall
without end
Softly then
stealing wool from the beards of thieves
and steel from the lair
of the buffalo wolves
in the upper branches
of the lurching night willow
the pig nest begins again
