How Medusa was created (strong language)

Medusa 1

I was a pretty girl
not beautiful
not gorgeous
but I was pretty

Conceited they called me
Bitch they screamed
Because I dared to walk by
Holding my head up high
-------------------------------------------------
I couldn't help my slight smile
She was just a few feet away
She grinned and reached out to me

The first stone hurt the most
WITCHES they shouted
SINNERS they shreiked

I begged her to flee
She shook her head
Causing the blood to fly free

She ROARED to the men
to the boys that were
so happy to be throwing their stones
so grateful they finally had a reason for their hate

YOU STONED US ON SIGHT
FOR YOU KNEW THE POWER LOVE CREATES
BUT YOU WERE TOO LATE
NOW SIGHT PROTECTS
NOW STONES CRUMBLE

She slumped against me
I clutched her as we fell
the men were silenced

All I could hear was the sound of my heart beating
And the sound of the snakes that now surrounded me

Very interesting piece.  Would I be right in thinking it is related to an event in the news recently?  I wasn't sure if 'Medusa 1' refers to the first part or to the whole piece, and there will be more to come?  I hope so.

Thanks for reading :) I have many friends that I'm currently worried for and I've been reading a lot of mythology lately. I decided Medusa's story isn't about a curse but instead it's a blessing from someone she loved to protect her.
