My Max

Goodbye my darling, my precious, my all.
You helped me throughout my fall
In health and looked at me in awe
With those big eyes and that brown paw.
You were my angel and my rock
And no matter what you only took
Whatever I could give you at the time
But throughout you seemed to shine
Even when you had those terrible fits
And I looked at you shaking in bits
You took from my hand the sweet honey
That made you feel better my bunny
When you left my heart was empty
But you left me with more than plenty
Of memories of how we had fun
On that grass where you would run
After that round yellow ball
I hit since you were small.
It hurt me deeply when
I injected you with insulin
But we both knew it was going to help
So not once did you squirm or yelp.
You were so strong
But I knew it was wrong
To keep you on this earth
Fifteen years after birth.
You were sick and I wept
Seeing you on that table where you last slept.

This is so sad and beautiful
This is so sad and beautiful all at the same time. We never forget our animal companions, only time heals the pain of loss.
A great tribute.
Jenny.
