My Village
Part 6
Fishing Hobby
For pleasure and relaxation
to break the monotony of one profession
man chooses hobby one or more
utilizing his leisure on this score.
A city dweller or a remote villager,
an adult, an old or a school going teenager
chooses hobby of his own liking
from a multitude of options prevailing.
My villagers were no exception.
Fishing remains their hobby since generations
with rivers, ponds, streams being the backdrop.
- a recreation indeed to aid a good crop..
when the sun slides behind the horizon
tired limbs remind them the fishing fun
Getting respite from the demands of the land
with lantern and fishing trap in hand
in groups, they rush to the river.
There their strain and agony wither.
Catch they fish and enjoy also water sport
with fun frolic they clean all their dirt
to relish a good dinner and sound sleep
- A clue to the sound health that they keep.
With accompanied lights in the cover of darkness
adorned they the zigzag river with a golden necklace.
In the elite clan, on hobbies, spends man a fortune
here all gadgets their make, abide traditional tune
made of twigs of coconut leaf and bamboo blades
certainly from all standpoints excel over modern aids.
A hobby breaks the monotony,
breeds harmony,
aids learning,
supplement earning.
In the village, it adds to it
direct health benefit
instant enjoyment
with nourishment.
Ways of fishing are many
to catch fishes large to tiny
from pond or river
to tiling field water
flowing or still
and the pleasure on the kill.
A short is my description
though on this epics can be written
glorifying the many aspects of life then
questioning our march as boon or bane.

I like this dsscription of your river at night with the lanterns!
"With accompanied lights in the cover of darkness
adorned they the zigzag river with a golden necklace."
How you write of your village is wonderful. I know India has changed so much, and progress is supposed to be good, and people having a better standard of living, but you show what has been lost is of huge value too. Maybe of more value than the progress gained?
Such interesting writing
