Is there a more charming sight to behold when

Northerly wind blows?

 

A bumblebee lingering like a flustered groom...

unsettled waiting for his blushing bride,

 

longs so much for busy Spring when veils lifted

a pretty face revealed,

 

sweet lips of honeyed nectar kissed afresh

thrilled by humming busy bees,

 

in garden and orchard blossom will bloom and

from my window all this I will see again.

I didn't know the latin name for bumblebees - what a brilliant one it is!

Anyway, a little gem of a poem - I particularly liked this line:

'A bumblebee lingering like a flustered groom...

unsettled waiting for his blushing bride,'

Me too, I liked that line. And the Latin name for a bee! Now I want a bee in an Asterix story.

I wonder if one of the sunshine intervals warmed it up and woke it?! It would need to get back into a hibernation crevice I should think. I found a housefly or somesuch in the bedroom yesterday. Not so nice! but I think it was quite sleepy and seemed easy to catch. May have emerged from a window crevice when the sun came out. Rhiannon

Hi insert,

this poem came about after seeing a huge bumblebee just before the approaching storm, in fact I saw one when I was out walking, then another in our garden. I looked it up on the internet to discover it's not unknown for them to be around even at low temperatures. But the one in our garden was what inspired this poem. I found it very interesting reading up about the bumblebee, they are so fascinating.

Ha, ha! You go for it with the bee in the Asterix story Drew, I would love to read it.

Glad you liked the line about a groom waiting for the blushing bride. The bee in our garden was hovering up and down our wall which gave me the idea for that line.

Hi Rhiannon,

I think you are definitely right about it looking for a crevice to crawl into, which was probably why the bee was hovering around the wall, trying to find a crack or a hole to keep warm in. It eventually flew off over the neighbouring wall. One of our neighbours has apple trees growing in his garden and you can hear the bees humming in Summer, it's like living next door to an orchard.

But I was saying to insert that I read bees can actually survive in quite low temperatures, but I also read that bumblebees are on the decline which is so sad, I just hope the ones I saw survived.
