rivers - once revered liquid addresses
for deities of equilibrium
with gravity pull caravans of wet
welded into muscled power, sprung from Earth
like see-through dragons from stone eggs, span lands
still, let boats ride their long sleek backs in peace
or buck off saddle-bridges in a storm
but what was valued became used, abused -
we spill their blood to sate our crops, or take
away our waste like guilt is after death,
douse ourselves in chemicals, call it clean
and all we worship now is on a screen
thinking water held down by a sewer's thread
we forgot Life’s wild, and drink our mistakes

Yes. You're right. We don't
Yes. You're right. We don't appreciate them, enough, and only care, enough, when they cause us pain, by flooding. Although I love pottering around on the Norfolk Broads. On a boat.

So much benefit from chemical
So much benefit from chemical research, but so easily abused whether it be in damaging use of drugs or unnecessary use for pride and unaware at the effect of what we throw or wash down the sink.
But our rivers are still beautiful and useful, and refreshing, though their power needs to be respected, and remnds us of our weakness. Rhiannon

Hereford has had very much
Hereford has had very much trouble. We are north of there and OK, though roads get flooded, and some of the viallages have had houses inundated. Now the water's coming down the rivers from Wales (Wye, Lugg, Severn etc, and is causing conern and much preparation. Rhiannon

I wonder what the deities of
I wonder what the deities of equilibrium would have to say if they could speak! They would probably agree that in the end nature will win through, because water has been around a lot longer than us.
A thought provoking poem that was very inspiring.
Jenny.

Love liquid addresses, and
Love liquid addresses, and the idea of boats riding their backs. And life is wild, we are all wild things really though we might try to forget it from behind the brick and mortar. Lovely writing with a thoughtful message. :)
